Best Minecraft Horror Maps on the Marketplace
Minecraft doesn't look scary. That's exactly why it works so well for horror. Take the game's cozy blocky world, drop the lighting, add something that shouldn't be there, and the contrast does half the work — the friendliest game on earth becomes genuinely nerve-wracking.
The Minecraft Marketplace has leaned hard into this. There are over 2,025 horror-tagged items on Bedrock, including 168+ well-rated horror worlds. We ranked the best of them by total player engagement — the maps and add-ons that have actually scared the most people — so you can skip the duds and get straight to the good frights. Grab some friends, turn the lights off, and pick from the list below.

Add-ons are the scariest option for one reason: they invade the world you already feel safe in. New to installing them? Our guide to add-ons covers how they work and how to turn them on.
How to Get the Most Out of a Horror Map
- Play at night, with sound on. Horror maps live and die by their audio. Headphones and a dark room turn a decent scare into a great one.
- Play with friends. Most of these support multiplayer, and shared panic is half the fun. Our best packs for playing with friends has more co-op picks.
- Check ratings and reviews first. Horror is hard to pull off — a lot of maps overpromise. Stick to well-rated ones (these all qualify) and you'll avoid the letdowns. The average horror map here holds a 4.13/5 rating.
- Mind the price. Horror worlds run around 713 Minecoins on average — premium territory, because a good one is essentially a custom game. Make sure it has a preview video before you buy.
- Read the description for age/intensity. Some of these get genuinely intense. If you're a parent, check the content before handing it to younger players — our parent's guide to the Marketplace explains how.
Bring a Friend (and a Nightlight)
From Backrooms mazes to haunted houses to add-ons that turn your own survival world against you, the Marketplace has a genuinely deep horror library — far better than its cheerful reputation suggests. The picks above are the ones players keep coming back to, so any of them is a safe bet for a scary night.
